Elusive -My Fantasy
i've realized recently that the reason i enjoy broken beat chop music is because i have
been hearing beats being created for years, anyone who has even tried to make a beat will
feel this genre and if not, programming unquantized sequences(without timing auto correction)
gives the inital feeling of mistakes, but if the mistakes happen repeatedly in a loop
they become a drunken swing or a super headnod groove. Elusive's My Fantasy tape captures
this concept %100, enjoy.

Lecture: DOOM (Madrid 2011) from Red Bull Music Academy on Vimeo.
Hip hop's last enigma sits down on the Academy couch to break down the message behind the mask, rap beef behind his different personas, and why good things come to those who wait. i think its interesting how he can't talk about what he samples but how he samples and is work process. i think the explanation of the difference between Doom,Viktor Vaughn, and King Ghidorah was so sick, dude has a real grasp of his concepts. The Mask representing a rebellion against Rap being sold as a visual media and commercialism,"Dont worry about what i look like, listen to the music" comon son, so real talk man. The Note [GENSU DEAN REMIX]
The Note [Gensu Dean Remix] is a serious, slightly ominous toned track starts with singing in what almost sounds like a call to prayer over a sitar. Then Dean cuts up some drums, adds some bass stabs, and layers vocal chanting throughout the beat to create a thought provoking, heavy new edition of Apollo's original.
Additionally Dean drops a new chorus reflecting on those who are so caught up in the grind for money that they lose sight of the everyday folks - a sort of note to self to maintain focus on what's important even while some blaze up in their pursuit of materialism. Hassaan Mackey of course spits raw and reflects on writing, music, and the deals we make: "Looking at the paper like hmmm I'll take her."

Out Da Box TV - Willie Evans Jr. + Free Song Download
Out Da Box TV is proud to bring you a special new interview along with an exclusive bonus track from High Water Music artist "Willie Evans Jr." Playing off of the theme of his debut album "Introducin", we met up with Willie to do just that. He took the time to speak to us about his musical journey, coming from Jacksonville Florida, with his former crew Asamov to joining up with Sucio at High Water Music. He also spoke on his "Billy Lotion" instrumental project inspired by Aloe Blacc and his passion for choppin' music video. Chances are you may have already heard of Willle but didn't yet get to hear his story and what he brings to the table. This brother has some interesting things to offer as far as creativity and musical approach. Definitely, not your typical emcee/producer here! Be on the look out for more to come from Willie Evans Jr. Also, as a special bonus, Out Da Box TV and Willie Evans Jr. are proud to share with you a brand new track, entitled
"Introducin' (The Paten Locke Rebox)" which is actually the Remix to the album's self-titled cut "Introducin". Much Props to Willie and Highwater Music for lookin' out. "Introducin'" Album out now. Enjoy!

J.Bizness - Flips // Free Beat Tape
"Flipping" a sample is a term commonly used by beat-makers when referring to manipulating an existing piece of music. The general technique is to sample a record or any audio file and dissect the audio in order to make another beat. It's a pretty simple concept that isn't always as simple to execute.

#CRASH
From Damien:
A few weeks ago, the hard drive that I store all of my music sessions on crashed, taking with it a number of songs that were in progress / incomplete / sitting idle / forgotten. I’m usually pretty good about backing up my drives, but neglected to back this one up for a while. Fortunately, some of the more important future releases are intact, but there are a few sessions that were dear to me that are presumably missing forever. Luckily, I still have the unfinished 2-track versions of a lot of these songs, so i’m just going to give them to you as they are.
The first is “Presto Chango” by perhaps my personal favorite lyricist ever, D-ology of The Niyat. He stopped by my home studio last summer to record a few songs, and we got into a discussion about the monetary system (i’ve been the financial services industry for nearly 15 years). He mentioned that he’d written a song about the abuses and misconceptions of monetary policy, and implored me to add a verse. We originally recorded it over a track that I produced and had waiting in the wings. Later on he brought by the final track, produced by Mirawge, and it ended up being a better fit for the song. Apologies to D-ology – I know that he wanted to re-record his second verse again. But the session’s gone. I still see the raw beauty in any imperfections that you may find in the verses – it definitely captures a moment.
If I get around to it, i’ll even post the original version.

J-Finesse Presents...Ode To The Ummah
The Ummah is a music production collective, composed of members Q-Tip and Ali Shaheed Muhammad of A Tribe Called Quest, and the late Jay Dee (also known as J Dilla) of the Detroit based group Slum Village. Occasional members include Raphael Saadiq, and D’Angelo. In addition to producing the entirety of A Tribe Called Quest’s fourth and fifth albums, The Ummah has provided backing tracks for a notable array of hip hop and R&B artists, including Busta Rhymes, Whitney Houston, Keith Murray, Brand New Heavies, Janet Jackson, and Jon B. The group is so named because two of its members (Tip and Ali) are devout Muslims. The word “ummah” is Arabic for “community” or “brotherhood”.
The collective took shape around 1995, when veteran keyboardist, Amp Fiddler, introduced Jay Dee (who at the time was shopping for a deal for his group) to Q-Tip. Although Tip wasn’t taken by Slum Village as a whole, he was impressed enough by Jay Dee’s deeply soulful productions to invite him as a permanent, although largely unseen, 4th member of A Tribe Called Quest. Their first work, Beats, Rhymes and Life, was criticized for moving away from the group’s earlier, more dense, and bottom heavy sound exemplified by tracks such as “(We’ve Got) Jazz” and “Oh My God”. The new sound which now leaned towards a more laid back, polished, tone would be embraced a little more with the release of Tribe’s “Find A Way” from their fifth and final album The Love Movement, although the album itself received a lukewarm reception, and no second proper single or video was released.
This album was a dedication to the Ummah and how music would be if they were still making music as a collective. What you will hear is my interpretation of the type of production style that influenced the way that I make music.
